First though, I promised to introduce
myself and I always keep my promises. My name is Joshua Beistle;
I am 30 years old and live in Phoenix Arizona with my wife and newborn daughter. I was first introduced
to Network Marketing when I was 15. Now obviously I was too young
to sign up myself, but I managed to talk my Dad into it. I think
this initial exposure really set the tone for the next 15 years

makes $5 for stuffing envelopes. I also learned that (for the
incredibly low price of only $39.95) no one makes $1,000 working
from home, part-time, assembling easy products. Remember the
mail program where you send $1 to a list of 10 people and then
move yourself up on that list? - I did that too. I’ve probably
started with or bought 50 or more “home based business opportunities”
over the years, but you get the point.
During the same time frame, my
friend and I answered an ad for yet another Network Marketing
Company. The person we responded to was kind enough to give us
an in home “business presentation” where we bought lots of product.
He told us to sell it to people we knew and basically left. Since
my Dad still had product from the business I started when I was
15 (and a few others) I don’t think we ever sold a single thing.
By now, as you can imagine, I
was pretty tired of home based businesses and set off to seek
my success in what I had begun to call “the real world”.
And I did (find success, that
is).

For the next few years I either
worked for corporate America, or in my own business, consulting to corporations –
and I worked A LOT! At times, I enjoyed significant financial
freedom. What I didn’t have was time freedom.
So guess what? Yup – you guessed
it; I bought back into the American Dream for only $49.95 and
a monthly autoship of $200. Again…And again…. And again. I won’t
bore you with the details but I bet we’ve had some of the same
disasters.
Here’s my short list:
1. Signed up in a business (because it
was going to be HUGE and my upline was going to put tons of people
under me) and then my sponsor QUIT!
2. Another company just went out of business.
3.
Still
another company changed their compensation plan so many times
I don’t think they even knew what it was.
Eventually though I signed up
with a stable company and started on their system, sure that this
would be the one. I spent tons of money, aggravated my friends
and family, argued with my wife, and bought product that I didn’t
need. I managed to bring 1 person every week to the Thursday
hotel meeting and recruited people I couldn’t train to be any
more successful than I was.
I knew there had to be a better
way.
Still confident that somebody
was making money in Network Marketing and still determined to
leverage myself into massive residual income and time freedom,
I set out on a mission to buy and try every training program I
could find. I spent $1000’s of dollars to learn new ways of doing
the same old thing: buy products and recruit friends and family!
Honestly, I was extremely disappointed.
Finally, disgusted with the so-called
“guru’s” systems, I just turned my back to them and combined the

The Duplication Myth
Everyone in Network Marketing
talks about duplication. The idea is you recruit 2 people who
get 2 people who get 2 more people. That would be duplication.
Obviously duplication doesn’t
work or we’d all be members of Amway. We’d literally be born
into the business; nurses would have membership papers there as
you’re born for your parents to sign on your behalf.
There is no such thing as real
duplication in Network Marketing. People are different. They
have different abilities, different talents and different levels
of willingness to go the distance. Duplication assumes that everyone
is and will do the same thing.
I often hear speakers in Network
Marketing give the example of McDonalds for duplication. It is
true that you can purchase a Big Mac anywhere in the world and
it will taste virtually the same as one from your own home town.
It’s probably also true that your customer from Ohio will receive
the same MLM product as your customer in Ontario. This is not true for the people though.
There is a profound difference between the clerk taking three
dollars from you in the drive through and the owner of the Franchise.
They each fill important roles in the organization but their understandings
and incomes are significantly different. The clerk is clearly
not a duplicate of the franchise owner.

The Warm Market Debacle
This has to be one of the most
contentious topics in MLM. I can’t begin to count the number of prospects that I have personally
spoken with during the recruiting process that insist on NOT USING
their warm market. Too many of us have burned relationships with
those closest to us recruiting them into one BIG Opportunity after another.
The worst part of this is that
our warm market seems to be the only people our Network Marketing
Company and Sponsor can show us how to market to. If you have
been in MLM for even one week you know that the first rule is to use the Memory Jogger
to list everyone you know. The next step, which you have been
undoubtedly indoctrinated with, is to schedule time with your
sponsor to call these people and expose the opportunity to them.
“So your Uncle is in sales, huh? Call him and invite him to our
Thursday meeting, we need to get him into the business right away!”
Sound familiar? I bet it does,
and it used to frustrate me to no end. Now don’t misunderstand.
I did go to my warm market and recruited several of my family
into different businesses. The problem is eventually I found
myself in another business and it made that personal relationship
tenuous. To make things worse I now had a smaller “Warm Market”
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOUR WARM
MARKET GOES COLD? I must have asked this question a hundred times
and had it in turn asked of me. All answers were effectively
this: (if I could get an answer at all) “recruit someone to get
into their warm market”.
I was at Starbucks one day having
a bit of Java (my favorite past time) when it hit me. I NEVER called on my friends and family for my traditional business. Why would
I rely on this approach for my MLM business? Furthermore, why
is it that the best marketing technique your company can offer
is to go to your warm market?
I was shocked when I realized
the truth. Network Marketing companies and your sponsor don’t
know a thing about real marketing. All they know is that the
fail ratio in this industry is 90% period, which means that your
days are numbered (the odds are you will be one of the 90% and
drop out). So naturally they want to get as much value out of
you as they can, as soon as they can. And what faster, easier
way can there be than to have you recruit your warm market?
The worst part of this is that
the consumer is never once thought of in this scenario. You know
the part where we talk about filling a need or want in the market
place. Instead your company is only thinking about replacing
you as fast as they can. No wonder the fail ratio is 90%. People
are being brought into your organization for the wrong reasons.
(Because they know you and not because they have a valid need
or want for your products and or services or were actively seeking
a business opportunity).

The solution to The Warm Market
Debacle is simple. Treat your MLM like a real business, meaning you should focus on filling
a need or want in the marketplace. Learn to really market your
products and or services. Unless you know someone in your family
that needs or wants your products or services (or is in fact a
known entrepreneur) LEAVE THEM ALONE. Seek out the training and
mentorship you need to become a marketer so that you in turn can
teach and mentor your team to do the same. And that’s what you

Your Upline/Companies System Works, BUT Not for You

the massive results that the people on stage are achieving? After
all you followed your companies “Success System” to a “t” right?

“how can I QUICKLY get my organization to 5000?” (After all I
bet you could buy a new house with 5000 new people a year coming
into your business) And the second is: "why do I have to
settle for techniques that are so ineffective to begin with?"
Yes I wanted success but I also knew deep down inside that I wouldn’t
be truly happy with success if it came at the expense of others.
I certainly didn’t want to be that person on stage that was making
tons of money but not able to really help those in my organization
do the same.

After investing thousands in training
and trial and error, the solution I found was to use traditional
marketing techniques with my MLM products and services. In
this manner I stepped out of the limiting structure of my upline’s
system and began experiencing massive results. The best part
about it is I was able to teach my team these simple yet powerful
marketing techniques right away. This created massive leverage
because now instead of expecting just one new person a year from
my team I could realistically expect 4-8 new people PER MONTH

I was searching for successful marketing techniques to grow my
business, I literally stumbled onto this next success secret.
This one tip alone could save you thousands of dollars and countless
hours of frustration.
I remember clearly the week I
first learned that my company along with key upline members had
put together “The Finest Marketing Tool in Network Marketing Today!”
Now I will give them this much, they built up incredible excitement
and anticipation. Every team member I knew was calling me or
else I was calling him or her to see if they knew anything about
the big announcement. This was going to be HUGE. It would certainly
revolutionize Network Marketing forever! I was so excited I couldn’t
sleep the night before the announcement.
Keep in mind that the build up
started about a month before the announcement. Turns out, the
big announcement was that the company and key leadership had produced
an infomercial. Boy was I excited! As independent distributors
we had the opportunity to pay in a couple hundred bucks and actually
share the LEADS. There would be too many of course for those
that put this together to handle themselves so they would cut
us in on the action. How many leads do you think I got for my
$200?
Try zero. Now I know you are
probably saying that I should have planned for the possibility
that it wouldn’t work. And you are right. But what I shouldn’t
have had to plan for was the possibility that the people putting
this together HAD NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE DOING.
Testing is very important in marketing.
There isn’t a single corporate marketer that will tell you different.
The problem here is that when MLM companies and Upline leaders share a NEW marketing plan with you they
probably haven’t done the due diligence and testing needed beforehand.
Its not always an infomercial either, I’ve spent tons of money
on other “recommended” marketing tools from my upline that never
produced results, like recruiting DVD’s, audio cd’s, direct mail
etc. Turns out that most of the time these marketing ideas have
never once been properly tested. Instead your Company and or
Upline want to test out the idea with YOUR MONEY!

I recommend that before you invest
your hard earned dollars into another “BIG Idea” from your upline
gurus, insist that they show you the testing results, receipts,
call logs etc.; you can even ask to be introduced to a few people
that they recruited into the business using those techniques and
or methods.
The solution is to arm yourself
and your team with powerful, pre-tested marketing campaigns that
bring results time and time again. The best news is that many
of these campaigns and techniques cost virtually nothing to implement
once you learn what they are.

Retention Goes to Zero if You Have Nothing More to Offer
Than the System that’s Failing You
After all the hard work that goes
into Networking Marketing I found it really disheartening that
so many people dropped out. If you have recruited any number
of people into your current business or a previous business I
know you share this feeling. I often wondered exactly how I was
supposed to build momentum with such high attrition levels.
One of the greatest steps towards
success that I ever took was to call on these people to find out
why they honestly left my organization. Most of them were very
apologetic and thanked me for the time I had invested in them
and their goals. With all these nice words I found it difficult
to get to the bottom of their reasons for quitting. Pressing
on though with each call I learned that the #1 Reason people quit
is because they are not making any money and see no bright lights
at the end of the tunnel. The ones that were truly working the
business felt more dejected working on their MLM business than
they did at their dead end job.
Now of course with some people
they simply got the results that they deserved, nothing. But
with others I had seen first hand how much work and effort they
were putting into their business day after day and week after
week. These were the ones that bothered me most. I mean what
more can you ask for in a team member than someone who has enough
desire and integrity to DO what they are supposed to do?

The problem is that these people
were having the exact same results that I was. The systems that
I was teaching them were failing me so how could I honestly expect
anything different for them? As a leader I knew that I would
have to find a better way. I knew that it was my responsibility
not just to me but to those that followed me to develop a turnkey
system to assist them in getting their business IN PROFIT as soon
as possible. In fact I now make it a policy to get each of my
personal recruits in profit within 90 days. Of course there are
still those that will not put in the effort but for the rest I
make sure they are in profit. A profitable distributor has no
reason to quit and sees the light at the end of the tunnel.
The solution that I have found
for getting my reps into profit within 90 days or less is two
fold. The first step is to make sure that I assist them in finding
the right autoship and maintenance tools (websites, voicemail
etc) for their budget. I could make a lot more money initially
by setting them up with the maximum autoship of product but in
the long run I would lose. I realize now that my success is FULLY
DEPENDANT on their success and so I have learned to make decisions
based on their needs and not my own. Their autoship should be
decided based on personal usage and ACTUAL CUSTOMERS, not based on maxing out the comp plan.
The second step is to assist them
in putting together a REAL marketing plan to generate new customers and reps. I use any number
of more than 100 marketing tools in my arsenal to help them get
started. I only share with them marketing tools that I have used
myself successfully and profitably. (I refuse to test marketing
with their dollars)
Once they are in profit with their
business center I really get going with training, education, goal
setting and making sure they are plugged into company events and
functions.

If You Want to Recruit Like Babe Ruth You Must First Be Successful
As soon as I figured out Success
Secret #5 my recruiting efforts started bringing in more and more
results. I found myself SORTING through prospects and attracting
rather than convincing, selling or dragging.
The key was that I had MY BUSINESS
in PROFIT which is something that opportunity prospects are understandably
looking for, someone that has done it and can show them how to
do it as well. There is a huge difference between 3 waying a
prospect over to an upline leader (because you haven’t made any
money and don’t want to lie) and being able to share with them
first hand that you are making money and able to help them do
the same.
I cannot begin to count the number
of Network Marketers that I have talked with who struggle everyday
with recruiting. The problem is most of these people have never
sold more than two or three retail customers. Other than their
warm market they have never really done any marketing. If you
want to instantly improve your recruiting efforts then start marketing
and retailing your products. Put your business in profit so that
you have a reason for people to join. Ask yourself this question.
Would I (knowingly) join someone’s business if they had never
made a dime, or if they couldn’t honestly show me any other way
to market the products than through my Warm Market? No, probably
not.

realized I had found was in my ability to convey belief in the
legitimacy of the products and the opportunity. People sensed
that I had success and would be able to teach them to have success
as well.
